This Qi Zhong comes from Fo Guo Yan, a named Zhengyan shanchang within Wuyishan's historic rock-tea landscape. 
 
Qi Zhong (奇种) represents a fascinating side of Wuyi tea. Rather than thinking of Qi Zhong simply as another genetically uniform cultivar like Rou Gui, it is better understood in the context of Wuyi's diverse traditional Caicha population and the long history of selecting distinctive individual plants from that genetic material.
 
That makes this tea particularly interesting: distinctive traditional Wuyi plant material expressed through a specific Zhengyan growing environment and traditional Yancha processing.
 
In the cup it is complex, floral, and fruity, with a lingering finish and a smoother, less drying character than many Yancha.
