About the event

On Friday, December 2nd at 9pm est, Caroline Wu, head of Wuyistar Global Volunteer Program, along with other Wuyistar volunteers from around the world, will be joining NYTS members virtually in tea session featuring Wuyistar’s Yancha. Caroline Wu will be joining us from the Wuyistar’s tea garden, located in the midst of the prime Wuyishan tea growing region, while NYTS members will be brewing, tasting, and discussing the same teas simultaneously from our NYTS Forest Hills, Queens location.
We will be able to discuss the teas with others from around the world via a zoom meeting on a 46” monitor.

Wuyistar was established in late 2001 and is already one of the largest Chinese tea brands. They primarily sell internally within the mainland Chinese market. They are known for their roasted oolong teas.
In 2020, during the pandemic, Wuyistar implemented a Global Volunteer Program, in an effort to spread knowledge of Wuyishan Rock Tea to areas outside of China.
Come and meet some of the volunteers who have joined.

Wuyi Yancha is an oolong tea grown in Wuyishan, in northern Fujian Province. Wuyishan is a UNSECO World Heritage site, internationally recognized and protected for its biological diversity and significance as an ancient cultural site. Farmers in Wuyishan have been producing rock tea since around 1650. Today yancha is one of the most popular tea categories in China. Yancha aka Rock Tea is so-called because of the unique mineral aspects noticed in its brew. Rock teas are also characterized by a medium to high charcoal roast.
